Kitchen December 21st, 2009

Our home is very personal, we will often fill it with the very best things that we can afford. Things that we enjoy, this way our houses represent our personality. If you ask many people which the favorite room of their house is then they will probably say it’s their kitchen. The kitchen is a very useful space, but it is also commonly used for meeting friends and family. How many times have you stood talking waiting for the kettle to boil? Too many to count I’ll bet!

This is why when considering home renovation projects the kitchen is one of the most important rooms that needs to be updated. In order to make kitchen renovations a success you need to come up with a fantastic kitchen renovation plan which makes it look perfect, while also still being a functional and useable space. We’re now going to look at some of the interesting kitchen renovation tips which can make kitchen renovation much more successful.

Amazing kitchen renovation tips

You should stop for a moment and think about what it is you intend to gain from renovating your kitchen, what will the new kitchen look like? You should write down a list of all the areas that you will be concentrating on, and list any appliances that need to be replaced.

Once you’ve got your plan you shouldn’t just start. You should actually ask other people in your family for their opinion. You don’t need to hire an interior decorator, but you do need to get some external input. Remember everyone in your family will be using your kitchen, so it’s got to be a room that everyone will enjoy otherwise there is no point in starting the project.

You may also get some interesting ideas that you hadn’t previously thought of. It would also be a good idea to read some of the kitchen design magazines as these will help to give you some interesting design tips for your kitchen. These magazines are very useful as they also give you ideas where you can get the materials required from.

You should then decide whether you want to do the work yourself, or whether you want to hire a professional to do it for you. It’s completely up to you, if you feel comfortable then go for it!

A Kitchen Facelift

Kitchen December 19th, 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Everyone is well aware that a kitchen remodeling project is a very, very expensive undertaking. However, as in all phases of life, there is always a short cut you can opt for. If you have a mini-budget, you simply do a mini-remodeling procedure. Since the kitchen is the most important room in the house, any kitchen facelift you do will automatically add value to your home; especially during the time of the resale of your home.

First task on the agenda, of course, is a thorough cleansing off the entire kitchen. Next, a gallon of paint will not only brighten up your kitchen walls, it will also change the appearance of your entire kitchen; much like a kitchen facelift. Spend a little time browsing through some home improvement magazines. Wander through the home improvement stores searching for matching or complimenting wall boarders. Utilize a color wheel to help you select just the right color combination for walls and adjoining borders. The kitchen cabinets are next. No you are not replacing or even refacing them. You are just refinishing them. Wood cabinets, a beauty to behold, can be painted in any “look alike” color you choose. They can resemble cherry wood or walnut wood; they can be painted white or cream or whatever color you like. What a kitchen facelift this will be.

Add some new, attractive, energy efficient kitchen lights. Replace you old ragged looking kitchen faucet with a modern eco-friendly, single control faucet. Invest in some multi-colored, heavy duty, absorbent kitchen towels to add to this kitchen facelift picture. And if there is any money left over, check out the throw rugs in your local department store.

If you accomplish all of the above things, you will have completed a kitchen facelift that you will be very proud of; and you did it on a mini-budget.

How Much Should Kitchen Remodeling Cost?

Kitchen December 18th, 2009

Simply asking the question, “how much should kitchen remodeling cost?” will not leave you with an accurate answer in dollar terms. I mean there are a lot of factors to consider when trying to cost a kitchen remodeling project. The best you can do is ask for a range and even then it wouldn’t be accurate.

Let me try and break this down for you so you can understand. I do, however, mention some few things kitchen remodeling prices and ranges as I go so read on.

What do you want to be done in the kitchen?

Providing a clear answer to this question should enable you to get a pretty good estimate of how much it would cost to remodel your kitchen. You need to decide whether you want everything to be new or you will simply do some replacements.

For example if you want your kitchen gutted and started from scratch i.e. new appliances, tiles, cabinets and everything it could cost you something like $15,000. Of course this also depends on the size of your kitchen.

If you choose to simply reface your kitchen and do some minor replacements such as changing cabinet doors, door knobs etc. then it could be 50% cheaper. For example, refacing about 15 cabinets could cost your something like $7500. This is excluding all the other changes you might have to make.

You can, however, choose to reface with affordable refacing material like plastic laminates. I always recommend refacing with veneer, thermafoils or better but it really depends on how much you have to spend. You can even choose to simply re-paint the cabinets. Ideally you could take the kitchen remodeling cost as low as $500 but if you were to directly ask me how much should a kitchen remodeling cost, I would say somewhere between $5000 and $8000 for a standard house.

Installing A Countertop Stove In Your Kitchen

Kitchen December 17th, 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Because the kitchen is such a gathering place in the home, it is often the place that remodeling begins. The kitchen is often the heart of the house; the place where families gather and entertaining often occurs. So it’s no wonder that homeowners choose to spend much of their renovation dollars in the kitchen – where small changes can affect big transformation and the value of the overall home can be dramatically increased.

Countertops, especially, have the ability to significantly impact the kitchen area – setting the tone for design and giving the kitchen a multi-layered functionality. Often, when choosing countertops, homeowners will opt for the traditional kitchen design that features a built-in countertop stove. But there are clear advantages and disadvantages to the countertop stove; deciding whether or not to have one depends ultimately on your personal style, functional needs, and budget.

Most busy homeowners today can appreciate the functionality of a streamlined kitchen. Our often chaotic lives leave little time to accomplish the myriad of tasks that need to be handled on a daily basis. So it’s not a surprise that most of us respond positively to those kitchens that are both compact and stylish.

A countertop stove fits into this description as it integrates seamlessly into the kitchen furniture. Whether gas or electric, the countertop stove can be customized to fit your décor and blend effortlessly with your other kitchen appliances. Homeowners normally find this type of stove to be an added convenience – offering form and function; as well as a supplement to the home’s overall value.

Of course, as with anything else, there are disadvantages to this stove that should be considered before a purchase is made. The most notable of these drawbacks is that there is a higher possibility of kitchen fire than with other stove units. Because the countertop stove is integrated directly into the kitchen counter, the risk of cloth and other materials coming into contact with the stove is higher.

Obviously, the easy way to combat such a possibility is to mount a smoke detector in the kitchen area – a law that most of us already adhere to in our homes. Further, it is always important to practice constant vigilance when cooking on any stove. And, as always, children should be kept away from all stoves until they are old enough to understand and responsibly use the appliance.

The countertop stove – like any stove that you choose – can be purchased through an appliance store or large home improvement retailer. Once delivered, the stove can be installed by the company from which you purchased it or by an independent contractor.

The installation of appliances should not be tackled by a do-it-yourselfer unless they have a thorough knowledge of appliance installation. This should be adhered to especially when dealing with a gas appliance; a professional should always be involved in handling natural gas lines.

A countertop stove can be a wonderful way to streamline the decor of your kitchen and keep you cooking your best while still looking your most stylish.

KitchenAid 18″ TRASH COMPACTOR BAGS 15/ea White 4318938

KitchenAid December 16th, 2009

KitchenAid 18″ TRASH COMPACTOR BAGS 15/ea White 4318938 I bought these 18″ Kitchen Aid trash compactor bags 4 packs at a time, as the shipping cost was the same, whether I bought 1 or 4. These bags are hard to find for my older appliance. At the store near where I live, they don’t always have them in stock, and they are a lot more money for each package of 15.

They hold up well, and I change them once a week on trash day. I have never had a problem with them, and this vendor shipped them quickly and well packaged. KitchenAid: These bags are compatible with all 18″ rectangular trash compactors (measure appliance width). They feature Whirlpool / KitchenAid’s patented Slip-n-Grip design. Constructed of tough 3-mil multi-laminate plastic. Pleated at the bottom for a custom fit. Made with 50% recycled plastic. 15 white compactor bags per package, with twist ties. Matches Port-A-Bag Model K12 Bags.
